LOURENS
Lourens in Amsterdam has gained local fame for its unique creation, the “crookie” — a delightful hybrid that combines the buttery flakiness of a croissant with the rich, indulgent flavors of a cookie. Lourens’ crookies have become a must-try treat in Amsterdam, drawing pastry lovers from all over to experience this sweet fusion. It’s perfect with a morning coffee or as an afternoon indulgence.
Lourens is a Dutch-owned bakery that has been delighting customers since 1952. They primarily offer specialty coffee, baked goods, and ice cream. From the moment you step inside, the classy yet simple design of the cafe creates an inviting atmosphere, blending timeless elegance with a cozy, modern touch.
Lourens offers a variety of croissants, with their most popular being their “crookies.” With that said, their top-selling item is the Crookie Original, a fan favorite among customers!
For all the white chocolate lovers out there, Lourens also offers delicious white chocolate crookies!
They even have unique flavors like matcha crookies and, of course, pistachio croissants!
They also sell macarons, loaf cakes, stroopwafels, biscuits and a variety of cheesecakes. Oh and hallo, Dutch exclusive “the crompouce“!
Alright, enough chit-chat—let’s dive into the viral crookie! For those unfamiliar, the “crookie” combines the flaky goodness of a croissant with the gooey indulgence of a chocolate chip cookie—a delightful mix that’s been trending widely, especially on platforms like TikTok.
The croissant of the crookie was wonderfully buttery, with a perfectly flaky texture that melted in each bite. Meanwhile, the cookie portion was soft, warm, and deliciously gooey, creating a satisfying contrast. Served warm and freshly baked, it was a sweet, delightful mess with chocolate oozing out with every bite!
Be warned, though—the crookie is incredibly sweet, rich, and quite heavy. It’s definitely best to share one with two or three people to avoid sugar overload, but for dessert lovers, it’s a real treat and worth every bite! I’d give it a 8.5/10!
Occasionally, there’s a queue at Lourens, but it moves quickly thanks to their efficient service. It’s worth noting that indoor seating is limited, so most people opt for take-away. Outside, however, you’ll find a few benches, or you can enjoy your treat alongside the nearby canals—an ideal spot for a relaxed and scenic break!
Have you tried the crookie yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Go grab that C and indulge! I’ll definitely be coming back to try their other baked goods—I can’t wait to see what other treats they have in store!
