LANSKROON BAKERY

Nestled between the picturesque Singel canal and the lively Spui square, Lanskroon Bakery has been a beloved fixture in Amsterdam for over a century. This small but storied bakery, run by the Dunselman family for four generations, combines a deep-rooted passion for baking with a dedication to quality that’s palpable in every bite. From the cozy basement bakery, where their bakers start at 6 a.m. each morning, to the shop’s charming storefront, Lanskroon embodies authenticity and craft.

For more than 100 years, the Dunselman family has upheld the art of traditional baking, making Lanskroon a true piece of Amsterdam history. Known especially for their signature koningsstroopwafels, the bakery’s offerings have become local icons. Here, you can savor these famous stroopwafels along with a fresh croissant breakfast, delicious pastries, or a steaming cup of coffee—perfect for a leisurely morning in the city.

Lanskroon’s offerings go beyond everyday treats to include seasonal delights that mark the year’s special moments. Depending on the season, you’ll find festive items like Christmas and Easter stollen, as well as traditional Dutch oliebollen during the winter months. In the warmer months, Lanskroon’s handcrafted ice creams and sorbets offer a refreshing taste of summer.

Lanskroon is renowned for its delicious Koningsstroopwafels, each with an impressive diameter of about 12 cm. These crispy, flavorful treats come in two irresistible flavors: honey and coffee-caramel. Unlike traditional stroopwafels, Lanskroon’s unique recipe ensures that the waffle stays super crunchy—even 4 to 5 days after baking!

Lanskroon’s Koningsstroopwafels are definitely a unique twist on the classic Dutch stroopwafels! The oversized 12 cm waffle cookie has a delightful crunch that sets it apart from the usual soft, chewy stroopwafels. The honey filling is subtle and pairs well with the crispy texture, adding a light sweetness that isn’t overly sugary.

However, as a fan of the classic stroopwafels with their gooey, caramel-like stroop filling, I found myself missing that traditional taste. While Lanskroon’s version may not replace the original for me, it’s still a delicious experience worth trying, especially if you’re open to a new take on the beloved Dutch stroopwafels!

Lanskroon isn’t just a bakery; it’s a warm and welcoming part of Amsterdam’s heritage. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you’re invited to experience the charm of this historical bakery. Drop in to taste a tradition that’s been perfected over a century, and be sure to check out Lanskroon’s social media to stay updated on seasonal offerings and special treats!
